Now that its $13.7 billion acquisition is complete, Amazon is selling its Echo and Echo Dot devices inside Whole Foods, and at a discount.
CNBC visited a Whole Foods in New York Monday morning, following completion of the grocer’s deal with the internet giant, and found a display of the devices selling for $99.99 and $44.99, respectively. That’s down from $179.99 and $49.99.
Many shoppers, not knowing about the Amazon deal before their grocery shopping Monday morning, were caught off guard by the display.
A banner hung above the table reading, “We’re Growing Something Good. Whole Foods Market + Amazon.”
It remains to be seen what other merchandise from Amazon.com will make its way into Whole Foods stores.
This is just the beginning.
