Add Kohl’s to the list of brick-and-mortar retailers signing deals with Amazon.
The department store chain unveiled plans on Wednesday to roll out a “smart home experience” in 10 stores, ahead of the holiday shopping season.
Beginning in October, shoppers at the designated locations in Los Angeles and Chicago will be able to purchase Amazon devices, accessories and smart home products directly from the e-commerce giant.
A representative didn’t immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment regarding whether more stores will feature Amazon displays in the future.
“We believe in the power of our store portfolio and know that our future as a best-in-class omnichannel retailer will be driven by how inventive, compelling and unique we can make our store experience,” said Michelle Gass, Kohl’s chief merchandising and customer officer.
“Kohl’s and Amazon share a customer obsession,” Gass added in a statement.
Kohl’s said it will dedicate 1,000-square-foot “zones” within its stores to Amazon products, including the Echo, Echo Dot, Fire TV and Fire tablets.
Customers can then schedule an Amazon expert to come to their home and install smart home devices, Kohl’s said.
Through the partnership, Kohl’s is also promoting Amazon Home Services, which offers customers access to local service professionals who help with tasks like cleaning and plumbing.
“We are thrilled to offer a unique new way for customers to try out our lineup of Alexa-enabled Amazon devices, learn more about our smart home services from Amazon experts and then buy those items directly from Amazon — all within Kohl’s stores,” said Dave Zimmer, vice president of sales and marketing for Amazon Devices.
Earlier this year, Amazon partnered with Sears to sell Alexa-enabled appliances on Amazon.com. After the Amazon takeover of Whole Foods, Echo devices are now popping up in the chain’s grocery stores across the country.
Electronics retailer Best Buy also sells some Amazon and Alexa-enabled products in its stores.
Kohl’s stock was climbing about 1.5 percent higher in premarket hours Wednesday on the news.
